[2024-3] Guard Rail Replacement [IN PROCESS – SCHEDULED]
Project: 2024-3
Status: IN PROCESS – SCHEDULED
One of the stone pillars and adjoining posts was knocked over this summer from unknown consequences.
Jon and JT Duchac dismantled and removed the pillar. During the dismantle, it became apparent that both the vertical posts in the pillar, and the horizontal post connecting the pillars were termite infested.
It seemed highly likely that the pillar was knocked down by a bear foraging for termites.
The remaining posts were found to be in similar condition, raising concerns that a repair of the section that was damaged would not be sufficient.
After visually inspecting the existing guard rail system, the board determined that the entire railing system was in need of replacement.
The bidding process revealed that a similar system would cost several multiples more than a traditional wooden guard rail.
Questions also existed about the effectiveness of the current system as a guard rail.
The board voted to approve a contract with Asheville Fence for a traditional wooden guard rail.
Update August 19, 2024:
We are scheduled for this repair in September.
